Optimized Upper Carrying Troughing Idlers for Efficient Bulk Material Handling

Upper carrying troughing belt conveyor idlers have the function to support belt sections where material is loaded and transported. The drawings illustrate the two basic arrangements with plain or impact rollers:

  • Flat with a single horizontal roller supported by two fixed brackets
  • Troughed structure with two/three rollers supported within a frame

The latest is the most suitable for bulk handling applications because it allows handling a greater amount of material with equal belt width and speed. In particular, the most used upper carrying troughing belt conveyor idlers with three rollers are designed for unidirectional belts; therefore, side rollers have a slight forward inclination to ensure self-centering belt tracking. Instead, version R without the same two degrees is required for reversible belts.

Of course, rollers are the most important components to be considered during the project phase of upper carrying troughing belt conveyor idlers in order to match the working conditions. Therefore, they have to be properly selected according to belt width and speed in relation to the flow and lump size of the conveyed material, corrosive and abrasive characteristics of material, temperature and environmental conditions.

At the same time, transoms of upper carrying troughing belt conveyor idlers and their pitch need to be designed and calculated on the basis of material weight so that they can provide the right support during load and handling.
