PROJECT DETAILS

Description

The client's end-user operated their barge mounted conveyor system for carbon fuel products and wanted to convert the system for handling grain. Due to the limited geometry of the existing barge, the owner had a choice between a bucket elevator or a Dos Santos Sandwich Belt conveyor. They chose the 84-inch-wide Dos Santos Sandwich Belt system because of its ability to elevate the 2500 stph material over a short distance, and because of the gentleness of conveying, to limit damage to the grain. Because the system is in a marine environment and handling food product, the Client desired a superior sealing system for the conveyor's idlers for long lasting reliable service. So, they contacted Rulmeca for their idlers for this project.

Benefit

Rulmeca's PSV sealing system provides superior, long-lasting and reliable sealing of the idler bearings in harsh environments including saltwater port application.

Solution

With the ultimate objective that the belt gently sandwich and convey the material within the geometry restrictions of the conversion, the client chose Rulmeca idlers sets and custom rollers to suit their unique carrying and hold-down frame requirements. Timing of the project dictated supply chain challenges that needed to be overcome, as the initially requested CEMA E7 rolls were not readily available to meet the project schedule. Rulmeca partnered with Dos Santos to designand supply foot spacers to compensate and match the client’s desired belt line, and we were able to substitute CEMA E 6-inch diameter rolls to eff ectively match the performance needs of the system within the project schedule.

Each is composed with a travelling ship loader mounted on rails and equipped with a tripper conveyor to elevate the material to the loader boom. The tripper is fed by a dock conveyor, which extends for 300 m and is positioned parallel to the parked vessel.
